Rio Grande owned two-dozen EMD GP9 locomotives (numbered in sets of four, rather than an unbroken block, with each ending in a 1, 2, 3 or 4), and 5954 - seen here switching the Pueblo, Colorado, yard - was the last of them. Arriving on the property in August 1956, seventeen years later the 5954 is wearing its third and final Rio Grande scheme. This GP9 was retired on October 3, 1991, and subsequently sold to National Railway Equipment later that month.
