Remarks & Notes |
Utah Railway's RUT311 local heads east toward Midvale yard late in the afternoon with a GP38-2/GP40 duo for power. The 10 car train worked the oil refinery district in North Salt Lake and a spur to Metro Steel in downtown SLC. The old Utah Ore Sampler buildings (at right) still stand at 53rd South in Murray. These monuments of broken glass and rusted steel are all that remain of Utah's one bustling ore mining and refining industry that made the Salt Lake Valley's skies hazy and gray year round. Today they remain standing with 'For Sale' signs that beckon urban removal-renewal. |
