June 13th, 1913, this alp transit line was opened. 33 tunnels and 22 bridges had to be built. The longest tunnel is the "Loetschbergtunnel", which is 9 miles long and has its summit on 4080 ft. Unfortunately since the new basic tunnel opened 2007, there are regional trains and a few freight trains only, who are operating on this track going up and through the mountains.
