| BRC C424 604 and 602 shove a transfer train around the northwest leg of the wye from BRC to Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal Railroad rails at 75th Street (Forest Hill) Interlocking Tower. Once they have completed the shove, the two big Alcos will take their 105 car train south (timetable East) on the B&OCT to Barr Yard in suburban Riverdale.
The BRC Alco C424's were the heaviest B-B units ever built. They were used primarily to transfer cars between BRC at Clearing and other railroads throughout Chicago. They also could be found on the South Chicago Branch, taking unit trains of coal and other commodities to the Rail-to-Water Transfer docks on the west bank of the Calumet River at 100th Street. This is one of my favorite BRC Alco shots! |
