Remarks & Notes |
On a Sunday morning the twin ex CN/VIA Fs perform for a throng of fans that are strung along the small shelf on the west end of the bridge high on the south flank of the Crawford Notch in the shadow of Mount Willard. This is the second day of the Conway Scenic's annual two day Railfans Weekend and the photo runbys in the Notch are always a staple of the events. These rails are the legendary former Maine Central Mountain Sub which lay moribund for more than a dozen years after Guilford shut it down in 1983. Now owned by the State of New Hampshire the Conway Scenic provides a 5 hr round trip that is arguably one of the most scenic train rides east of the Mississippi. |
