History is taking place on an overcast Saturday morning; Amtrak P240 starts its trek on FEC rails northbound after a 2 ½ hour visit to downtown Miami. This is Amtrak’s first visit to the downtown area and the first passenger train since 1968. After, the FEC/RailAmerica, State and local officials listened to Gov. Charlie Crist, they boarded the train when conductor Shaun Robertson yelled “All Aboard!” for a 9 stop trip back to the Amtrak station in Jacksonville, FL. This special train was operated to check the feasibility of resuming passenger service to the FEC rails.
In the P240 consist we have a P42DC numbers 1 and 67 followed by the Viewliner Sleeping Car 62020 (ex Moonlight View), Amfleet II Coach 25031, Amfleet II Coach 25081, Amfleet II Coach 25091, the Dome Car 10031 and Business Car 10001 Beech Grove.
