Remarks & Notes

This is the quintessential picture of industrial siding railroading in 1960’s New England. The Wrentam Branch freight from Readville is switching the Shoe Carton siding. At one time there would be as many as 15 freight cars in this whole Bird and son mill complex at one time. This geep is picking up a loaded boxcar filled to the top with individual bundles of flat shoe cartons that were loaded by hand. The train and siding are awash in steam vapor emitting from a faulty steam trap. There is ice everywhere and my footing is bad.
