Remarks & Notes
Deseret Ry’s #DPR-2 has the daily loaded coal train rolling easily downgrade about 4 miles from its final destination, the Bonanza Power Plant. The terrain here is composed of colorful Tertiary lake beds, common in the eastern Uintah Basin. Splendid isolation is one way to describe this area. The nearest rails to the west are 220 miles in Salt Lake City; east its 135 miles to the Craig branch at Craig, Colorado; south its close to 150 miles to Helper, Utah and to the north the UP Overland Route in Wyoming is over 150 miles away. I am pretty certain I’m the only railfan within 150 miles—probably more.
