A busy moment is captured at Union Pacific's North Yard in downtown Salt Lake City. At left, the top end switch job works covered hoppers on the east side of the yard. In the middle, UP 7663 is a trailing DPU on the daily North Platte to West Colton manifest, preparing to depart for the Lynndyl Sub. At right, UP 7700 heads the daily West Colton to North Platte freight, waiting for a clear signal to depart town at CP C785, 18th North. This inner city yard was UP's mainstay in the Salt Lake City area until the 1996 merger with SP when UP moved the majority it's of industrial switching to the former D&RGW Roper Yard in South Salt Lake.
