One of the two FP7s on train 42, the eastbound “Pelican” has conked out somewhere south of Bristol, so Southern has tacked on a GP35 (with Alco trucks from a trade-in) to the point of the passenger train. Even though the train has lost its RPO by now (spring 1968), 42 was still hauling a Pullman, a full diner and two coaches, as well as three head end cars (including a baggage car on the rear added at Bristol). The location is Wyndale, VA, just outside of Bristol on the N&W. [Editorial Note: Thanks to Ron Flanary for the caption assistance.]
