Goose Hill Junction, just west of Normanton, was the location where (prior to 1923) northbound Midland Railway trains joined Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway tracks to gain access to Leeds. In this image, the Midland route diverged to the right at the point by the rear of the train. 'Scots Guardsman', deputising for 'Leander', is on L&Y metals and heading west towards Wakefield with this evening's 'Scarborough Spa Express'. The overgrown & disused tracks on the left are the remnants of Locke's sidings. These tracks once connected the main line to the extensive industrial network of St.John's colliery (see image 230857).
