While clouds cast shadows on the Capitol Hill area, Union Pacific's North Platte to West Colton manifest departs North Yard in downtown Salt Lake City. The WP heritage SD70ACe in the lead was a reminder of the early 1980's when WP trains were built at UP North Yard for movement west toward Elko, Oakland and other points along the bygone Western Pacific Railroad. Of course standard cab WP U23B, U30B, GP35, GP40, and GP40-2's would have powered WP trains (oftentimes with UP pool power) back in the day.
