| Memories. The Cliffs Erie F9's and Taconite Harbor ore dock. In the operations heyday this pellet train with four Electro Motive Division F9 1750 HP locomotives would travel the 74 miles from the mine to this dock on the shore of Lake Superior with 96 cars of taconite pellets dumping the entire 8,000 long tons of cargo in 12-15 minutes and return back to the mine all the while never stopping. This photo depicts the clean-up of the operation under the dock after the mine closed and shipping of product from this location ceased. |
