| The Alaska Railroad provides shuttle service between Anchorage and Palmer for the Alaska State Fair each year in late August and early September. A Sunday afternoon shuttle train is within a few minutes of departing the Palmer Branch loading site for the hour and a half run back to downtown Anchorage. The Palmer branch trackage beyond this point has been taken out of service and these two weekends each year are the only opportunity to see passenger trains on this portion of the railroad. However, gravel trains still operate on the branch four or five days a week during the summer construction season. |
