Remarks & Notes |
With Searles Valley Mineral's massive soda ash production complex visible in the distance, five second generation EMDs dig into the grade as they haul their unit train out of the Searles Valley. The Trona Railway abruptly rises out of the valley beginning near Oxy, and continues up a 1.85% grade 24 more miles to Searles where the interchange with Union Pacific's Lone Pine Branch is located. Before long the train will be handed over to the UP, and on its way to the Port of Long Beach for export to foreign markets. |
