The last trip down the line Looking down the end of the line, only a few thousand track feet to the end of the former Pullman-Colfax line. Coming to a halt, the FP9 becomes the final locomotive to nearly make the journey between the two cities. Reaching far west, the W&I grabs the final load of cars off the branch line before abandonment. A burned out bridge, 4% grade out of Colfax, and many other bridges make the line uneconomical to keep open. The red handle visible in the cab is the emergency brake valve.
