Remarks & Notes |
A mere 15 miles off pavement and down a logging road into the woods of northern Minnesota you will come across the Skibo Road crossing at M.P. 43 on the NSM RR. Rumor had it this was the most remote railroad crossing in the country. Funny part about this is there is not only a road crossing here but this is also where the Cliffs Erie/LTV Steel/ Erie Mining Company RR crossed the Northshore Mining RR. So once a person gets out here, you wait for the train. Naturally this train was 37 minutes late which gives a person a lot of extra time to listen to nothing but the wind. Then you hear the faint noise of three SD40's, then it gets louder, then the train appears. Start shooting pictures off. Then you watch it roll by. Then you listen to three SD40's. Then you drive back out to civilization.
