Remarks & Notes |
Slaithwaite (pronounced Slough-Wit) lies in the Colne River valley about five miles from Huddersfield. Slaithwaite is the second town encountered heading down the valley from west to east. The line then passes through Milnsbridge and Huddersfield, onward into the level gradients of the Calder Valley and further into West Yorkshire. Snaking down the Colne river valley and carrying Manchester's waste past the autumnal landscape, the 'binliner' is destined for the Roxby Gullet landfill site near Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire. At least Manchester's muck isn't dumped in Yorkshire! |
