Remarks & Notes |
Fire-breathing monster: Flames escape the oil-fueled firebox of Rayonier #2 as she struggles up the 3.7% grade into Mineral. Fully aware of this phenomenon, the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad's engine crew keeps their oil cans clustered around the firebox door to prevent the lubricants from becoming viscous. Not aware of this phenomenon, the photographer nearly had his toes toasted as the train departed the station at Elbe, leading to the inspiration to attempt this shot later in the run. Thanks to the MRSR crew for the enjoyable and informative cab ride. |
