Nuevo Central Argentino Railroad's ALCo. RSD16 #8239 heads a train of empty hopper cars through the suburban station of Ministro Carranza, a mere 7 kilometers away from the Retiro Terminal. The tower at right, long ago out of service, managed signals of the double track ex-General Mitre mainline and the manual gates of the former grade crossing of the Santa Fe Avenue, by then converted into a subgrade passageway. Two reasons have turned this scene impossible to be duplicated nowadays: the footbridge from which this picture was taken was a temporary structure dismantled as soon as the works of the subgrade passageway were completed, and the huge pine tree just over the locomotive fell down to the tracks during a rainstorm in the Fall season of year 2000.
