General Electric ES44DCs are boringly common in southern California, so even though the ES44AC on the point of train S-LBPLPC1-05A looks pretty much identical, it is still cause for interest when an ES44AC shows up this far west. (How pathetic is that? Oh, for the days of wider motive power variety...) Seen here rounding the curve into Cajon Pass' Summit (and stretching out downgrade for a mile or so behind), this train is heading from the port at Long Beach, California, to Logistics Park in Chicago, Illinois, behind BNSF engines 6387, 4186, 7484 and 7388. That's a lot of trucks off the highway! To see this same view as it appeared in 1981, click here.
