DERAILMENT IN MIDVILLE: On November 21, 2010 at around 5:00pm EST, Norfolk Southern Train 192 (Macon, Georiga- Columbia, South Carolina freight) derailed 39 of its 90 car train, 14 of which were HazMats. 3 of those 14 leaked sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate (a main ingredient in OxiClean), Methyl Ethyl Ketone (a solvent used to make Airplane glue), and there was a 'hairline' fracture in a car containing Chlorine. There was a small precautionary evacuation within a 1/4 mile radius of the actual derailment, and Highway 17 was shut down for the cleaning process. Thankfully, no injuries reported! NS 921 is seen here with 3 locomotives that were called from Macon to assist in the clean up efforts. NS 921 will be in charge of pulling the rear 41 cars on NS 192 that did not derail and move them elsewhere while the clean up process continues. Note the LED lights from the numerous NS and Derailment agencies crews headed back and forth from the derailment about 41 cars lengths down the track.
