The Coast Starlight glides over the SR 170 segment of the Hollywood Freeway with barely a noise, but the thrumming of the GEs. This is the very western (geographically southern) end of the old Southern Pacific Coast Line. SR 170 was orginally intended to be called the Laurel Canyon Freeway and to extned to the La Cienga Freeway down to LAX. Most of that freeway was never built, and the section of SR170 that did get completed was instead added to the US 101 segment of the Hollywood Freeway. |
