Remarks & Notes |
Visiting Yorkshire and far from her original home, is this GWR 0-6-2 tank. The Great Western Railway absorbed a number of independent Welsh valley railways. Welsh locomotive crews liked their 0-6-2T locomotives so the design of the 5600 Class was a GWR version of the Rhymney Railway M and R class locomotives of 1904 & 1909 respectively. These fine 0-6-2s were ideally suited to hauling heavy coal trains a relatively short distance, so this 'Santa Special' is no great load for this compact and powerful locomotive.
