Remarks & Notes |
The passing loop at Draughton is set at the mid point of the 4 mile long Embsay & Bolton Abbey steam railway. It is hard to capture an image of the loop because of its setting in difficult to access farmland. The flock of Dales sheep on the hillside beyond the loop conveniently prove the point! GWR 0-6-2 tank No.5643 heads towards Bolton Abbey whilst industrial 0-6-0 saddletank 'Darfield No.1' makes very steamy progress towards the line summit at Holywell Halt. Local rock quarrying has resulted in the distinctive 'bite' out of the skyline, much to the annoyance of environmentalists. |
