Remarks & Notes |
With every one of its matchsticks creaking under the load, two DCs bring a loaded coal train from Rapahoe into Greymouth across an S shaped wooden truss bridge dating from the late 1800s. I heard the train call on the scanner and found a spot in the expectation that this would be a small shunt loco with a few coal containers but was surprised to see a pair of DCs and 30 loaded wagons on this train. This bridge has now been replaced with a C shaped concrete one just out of shot to the right, which enables trains to head east directly rather than having to go into Greymouth and run around the train. Unfortunately the old structure has since been demolished. |
