Remarks & Notes |
These two GE's made it into service on the CNW from October 1978 until November 1981. The CNW had leased them to try out in a number of different applications and GE applied CNW paint before sending them out to test. My memories of them are getting pretty fuzzy now, but I think they worked Proviso and possibly the Twin Cities before finally ending there test stint on the Escanaba Ore Dock. A CNW engineer later told me they went on to test for BN before finally ending up on industrial railroads. They were definitely not the equal of a pair of C628's, or a C628 with a C425 that normally worked this job by this date. They were loudly cussed by most crews that were not able to find a defect to sideline them. |
