One of the joys of railfanning along the Evanston Sub on Friday mornings is the opportunity to catch two Union Pacific perishable trains climbing the Echo Canyon grade. October 1, 2010 was no exception as both the Fresno and Roseville to North Platte trains were called east out of Riverdale (Ogden) that morning. Here a trio of contemporary GE motors climb the grade at Castle Rock. While all three motors appear much the same on the outside, models present include the ES44AC, AC4400CW and C44-9W. The Southern Pacific unit was built the SP 350 in August of 1995 while the UP 9759 was built the Chicago & North Western 8655 in January 1994. The UP 7448 is the junior of the bunch, built new for the Union Pacific in May 2009.
