It is the dog days of summer and on June 26, 1976, B&O cleans up yet another derailment in the interlocking at Orleans Road, WV. On the Cumberland Subdivision, derailments seemed to occur all too frequently. On the Magnolia Cut Off, it appeared cars would jump off the track and ride the crossties to Orleans Road, where they would pile up. Things were improving. The 1970's was a period of rebuilding for B&O in the area. Looking back, I am amazed at how much the B&O physical plant improved through the 1970's and into the 1980's. By the early 1980's, the Cumberland Subdivision was again a first class piece of railroad.
