BNSF Railway's Stockton, CA to Provo, UT Q-train heads east along former D&RGW rails at Lakota Junction, Utah. So much has changed at this location it's almost unrecognizable from even 10 years ago. Utah Transit Authority is building a new commuter rail line at left which will become a big transfer point for rail and bus traffic to and from nearby Utah Valley University. In the background, hundreds of acres of land are ripe for redevelopment, once occupied by Geneva Steel of Utah and it's trademark brown cloud of pollution. Perhaps these changes are for the better, but they have altered railroading's purpose and variety at this location in a fundamental way.
