Utah Railway's RUT312 local rambles east through UP North Yard in Salt Lake City, Utah. The city skyline contrasts well against a storm system parked above the nearby Wasatch Mountains. UR 3002 is an EMD GP40, built new for the Western Pacific as the WP 3525 in October 1971. Chances are good the 3002 visited North Yard several times both during the WP era and after the merger with UP. Prior to it's tenure on the Utah Railway it served on the UP (assigned UP 674, not renumbered); returned to owner/leaser in August 1985; sold/leased to Chicago Missouri & Western CMNW 3525, then CMNW 3008, then Gateway Western 3008; to KCS when that road took control of GWWR, to KCS 3150, to KCS 2700, then sold to the Utah Railway in October 2006.
