Remarks & Notes
I have always had a thing about the tunnel portals on C&O's Fort Spring Tunnel in Fort Spring, WV. Constructed in 1946-1947, to me they have a definite "art deco" look. Although not remote by any stretch of the imagination, they are off the beaten path. It has always seemed a shame that they could not be viewed by more people. They truly make a statement about C&O at the time. On August 20, 1975, a C&O local scurries out of the east portal with a short train, led by U30B No. 8209.
