Remarks & Notes |
Rio Grande's Midvale Tramp rambles along the Garfield Branch at Bacchus Junction in West Valley City, Utah. This trio of classic first generation EMD's (GP9 5942, SD9's 5312 and 5310) were placed in storage in 1982 only to be brought back into active service in 1983. By 1984 their days were numbered before D&RGW GP30's took over on Utah branchline operations within weeks. If you look closely, scale test car X-450 is coupled just ahead of the caboose. Apparently this line had a marginal traffic base by the fall of 1984. The box cars are loaded with copper concentrate and the tank car carries sulphuric acid. |
