Remarks & Notes |
Headin' Home - Two of the last three GP40-2s to wear their 1975 as delivered black and yellow paint lead a short 39 car - 3073 ft train north toward Anchorage. The train is at MP F5.7 and as soon as it crosses Placer Creek will duck into the nearly mile long Portage tunnel. This is the second of two trains out of Whittier that is handling the freight that arrived on the weekly AML barge from Seattle. Whittier is the ARR's main port for shipment of containers which arrive via barge stacked in racks above the main deck which contains 8 tracks for interchange of railcars to the BNSF & UP in Seattle. All the mixed freight and the first half of the containers left on a "turn" job from Anchorage early this same morning behind two SD70s and these GP40s back loaded the interchange barge earlier and now are heading home with the last of the COFC traffic. |
