With the change to Daylight Savings Time and the arrival of the Spring Equinox, it is again possible to photograph Union Pacific's Roper to North Platte manifest departing town in daylight. Here the daily drag freight rambles east up main 2 just before sunset, prepared to stop and set out a cut of cars. A big storm blew through Utah in the previous 24 hours, leaving the Wasatch Mountains looking more like winter and less like spring!
Coal and steel don't go bad. This album features long, slow, heavy freight trains; drag freights, slop freights, dead freights, etc. Trains with lots of power, and lots of different cargo slogging along behind.
