I remember it like it was yesterday. I had finally gotten to Crawford Hill and there was one shot I really wanted. A friend and I were perched on the hillside looking at a dead railroad, eastbound anyway. Finally a pinpoint of light appeared miles distant, as a train was approaching Crawford, NE. We looked at the sun and then looked at the train. Would it get there before the sun set? Time to sweat bullets. The train stopped in Crawford and a set of four SD40-2s was added as a pusher. More sweating. Finally, the train, an eastbound unit coal train, got out of town. Worry turned to excitement, as SD70MACs No's. 9944 and 9929 led the train up the hill, with a SD70MAC DPU and the pusher on the rear. It was an experience I will never forget.
