Remarks & Notes |
High Idle - It's 30 degrees below zero and dropping on a Tuesday afternoon in Alaska's second largest city. A lone yard unit sits outside the south door of roundhouse track 3 idling away in notch 3. Due to the extreme cold the ARR has to idle their units in a higher throttle position to prevent damage. Note the pig on a flat car adorning the old sign in the upper left corner. This denotes the "pig barn" where the ARR keeps it's Van Loader for piggyback TOFC service. Note: the photographer is a railroad employee with permission to be on the property and was wearing all required PPE while taking this photograph. |
