Remarks & Notes |
Timeless - Is it 2011 or 1911? Excepting the "modern" steam locomotive second out it could almost be the latter! The White Pass & Yukon's "rotary fleet" consisting of vintage snowplow #3 (Cooke - 1899) trailed by twin steam locomotives #73 (Baldwin 2-8-2 blt. 5-47) and #69 (Baldwin 2-8-0 blt. 4-07) and coach 211 does battle with the snow drifts near MP 21.5 in the time honored tradition. This is the task for which she was built 111 years ago. This location is prone to massive snow drifts filling in the cuts, and back during the years when the WP&Y was a year round freight hauler this area was covered by a 1064 ft shed and the name "Canadian Shed" for the spot endures to this day. |
