Remarks & Notes |
This is Grand Trunk Western 4-8-2 No. 6039's restored backhead which is one result of Steamtown's multi locomotive asbestos abatement project. The piping and jacketing were removed so the underlying asbestos could be safely disposed of. After the new shiny black sheet jacketing was replaced, it took boilermaker Mark St Aubin 2 1/2 days to reassemble the piping. Of note are the Duplex stoker elevator tubes. While this stoker did the job, it was more complex and later locomotives utilized single augur stokers. I would say that this 1925 Baldwin product's cab has not looked this good in over 50 years. |
