Remarks & Notes |
By the early to mid 80's the Soo's GP30 fleet was getting a little ragged. The Alco type B trucks that had come from the FA fleet were reportedly a pain to work on and as the economy went through a rather prolonged period of trouble(not unlike today) the GP30's found themselves going in and out of storage a number of times. The only good thing was a few of them received a new coat of paint during the down time. The 704 was one of the repaints but it had accumulated quite a bit of road grime by the time I shot this photo of it leading 727 and train 910 at Trout Lake. The engineer with the smiling face is Art LeGault, and the magic he could perform with a mile of COFC powered with the Soo's fleet of non D/B equipped units over the rolling profile of the Soo Subdivision was nothing short of amazing. |
