Remarks & Notes |
Around the loop - On the third day of the WP&Y's rotary outing the train finally made it to the loop at Fraser. The train plowed around from north to south and is seen here on the lower end of the balloon. This loop track was designed specifically for the purpose of turning the rotary fleet back in the day when the WP&Y was a year round operation and the rotaries kept the line open. The loop survives, though and is used to turn passenger trains during the summer tourist season. The White Pass & Yukon's "rotary fleet" seen here consisted of vintage snowplow #3 (Cooke - 1899) trailed by twin steam locomotives #73 (Baldwin 2-8-2 blt. 5-47) and #69 (Baldwin 2-8-0 blt. 4-07) with coach 211 (blt. by AC&F in 1918 for Oregon's Sumpter Valley) bringing up the rear. |
