Remarks & Notes |
Drumhead -It's the fourth and final day of the White Pass' rotary plow adventure. After three hard days clearing the pass they made it as far as Log Cabin station on Wednesday but didn't have enough time left on their hours of service to bring the trains down to Skagway for the night. Both the rotary fleet and the "chase train" were tied down here at Fraser ad left under the care of hostlers for the night. A motor coach took as back to this tiny border community in the morning and here we see a view off the back platform of coach 256 looking south at the plow train holding the main beside the historic wooden water tank. The White Pass & Yukon's "rotary fleet" seen here consisted of vintage snowplow #3 (Cooke - 1899) trailed by twin steam locomotives #73 (Baldwin 2-8-2 blt. 5-47) and #69 (Baldwin 2-8-0 blt. 4-07) with coach 211 (blt. by AC&F in 1918 for Oregon's Sumpter Valley) bringing up the rear. |
