Remarks & Notes
In order to run the railway through the ancient medieval town of Conwy (formerly Conway), the London & North Western Railway needed to breach the ancient city walls. The result could have been aesthetically disastrous. In typically Victorian fashion, the engineers managed to achieve a wholly pleasing result, the arch looking for all the world as if it was built in the 13th century like the walls themselves.
