Remarks & Notes
Watching the Claremont Concord S-4 104 switch the White River Jct. WACR yard, I stood listening to the sweet burble of the almost 61-year-old Alco and reflected on the storied history of this original D&H unit. Beginning life at Schenectady, NY in September of 1950 as D&H 3036, this unit would never leave the confines of New England! It would next become the Green Mountain Railroad 303, before being sold to the New England Southern as their 303. Next it worked for the Quincy Bay Terminal (paint that's still discernible today) as QBT 19, before winding up on the Claremont Concord as the 104. The CCRR 104 has held down the last year-plus assignment at the CCRR's West Lebanon, NH operation.
