Taking advantage of a great heads-up, I had enough time to hike in to Perry Viaduct. After seeing some amazing photos taken here during the N&W days by E. Roy Ward and Gene P. Schaeffer, I finally had the opportunity to catch an empty W&LE ore train on the bridge. Like so many places, the trees are constantly encroaching on the ROW, but this is still a fascinating place on the former P&WV. Directly behind me, the line plunges into 1196' Norris Tunnel, continues on a long tangent, makes a gentle turn, then soars above the Yough at Banning. Quite a scene today, but to have been there in its heyday...
