Amtrak "Superliner" coach 34008 has had its body raised by one of the two sets of permanent car jacks at the new Preventive Maintenance Facility at the carrier's Los Angeles engine and car shops. With the body removed, the trucks can be inspected, cleaned and, if necessary, replaced. The four hydraulic jacks lift the body in a matter of seconds. One of the car's two kingpins, which pass through the trucks' bolsters, can be seen in this view, as well as the chocks holding the trucks in place for reassembly. The car body's four jacking pads are just outboard of the corner steps. For other views from this operation, click HERE and HERE. Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE.
