My grandson's football game had ended on a perfect Saturday midday, when I flipped on the scanner and heard of an approaching train. Time to jump into a phonebooth and slip into my "S" costume (Superman of railfanning) and plot a chase. Minutes later, the old Milwaukee Road depot serves as a prop for my first shot of a Madison-Janesville turn, led by ex-MILW power. My mind started to think of any good fall colors locations I might know of, and the chase was on. And in spite of higher train speeds account of track upgrades and my own superman-like WSOR chasing prowess, it all proved quite the challenge. But, it was rewarding. Faster than a speeding locomotive? Hardly.
