With the clearest of blue skies and a chill in the morning air, I was amazed that there was only me and 'Jess' dog to witness this splendid sight at this classic NYMR location. Authentic it may not be, but a Southern Railway S15 with carmine and cream stock in deepest North Yorkshire still looks pretty d-mn fine to me. I much prefer the look of these locomotives without deflectors. The unique (slightly coned) smokebox door does no harm to her good looks either. The mixed-traffic S15 4-6-0s were built in three batches between 1920 and 1936 and fortunately for posterity, several survive in preservation.
