As a counterpoint to M. S. Repp's "before" photo from 1983, here's the "after" view from Lander Street in 2010. The hulking concrete mass of the Kingdome has been replaced by the soaring trusses of Safeco Field's roof; the downtown skyline has grown and Capitol Hill has densified; and, oh yes, the railroad infrastructure has completely changed: The last southbound Sounder of the evening accelerates towards Tacoma on the middle of three main tracks past the south end of the King Street Coach Yard while intermodal containers full of garbage await shipment to the transload facility at Roosevelt, WA.
