| Yes, they are still going ... but are surely on their last leg. GE boxcabs 603 + 604 (ex FCCT, built 1927 in Schenectady (NY) haul an uphill train on the electrified section Topocilla - Barilles. Maintenance is poor: locomotives are dirty, mechnical problems lead to many disruptions. During our fact-finding-trip to prepare the April 2012 tour to Chile, we were told by SQM managers that only the slow delivery and some minor problems of the new electric locomotives keep the old dinosaurs alive for the time being. © www.Tanago-Tours.com |
